Edward McKendree Bounds (1835-1913) was a lawyer, Confederate army chaplain, and pastor in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He spent the last seventeen years of his life reading, writing and raising every day, before dawn, to pray for four hours. He is the author of eleven published books.
Throughout his life, whether ministering to the soldiers during the War Between the States or bringing the Word to his flock, he relished his time in conversation with God. In his lifetime he only published two of his manuscripts on prayer, but this book contains all eight of his written works. It was originally published several years after his death.
